2018-19 Media Center Planning File

I shared this file with lots of folks via social media, but have not taken the time to updated my blog with this information.

Nevertheless... here's my plan for the 2018-19 school year.

PGM Media Center Events for the 2018-19 School Year
August

September
  • National Honey Month -- Spotlight PGM Beekeeping Club
  • Book Speed Dating -- during September, when classes come in to checkout books, I’ll have a selection of books on tables for students to speed date.
  • Teacher Tech Training -- Open Ed Resources
  • National Read a Book Day -- September 6
  • Library/Online Resources for Parents Class
  • International Dot Day - September 15 - Make your mark on the world with artwork and poetry to display in the library
  • Constitution Week September 17-23 -- memorize the Preamble to the Constitution contest
  • CPIE Social Media Class -- September 28 to coincide with Good Neighbor Day
  • Shelfies -- students take pictures of themselves and the book they’re reading, post to social media, tag PGM OR share via Google Drive; random pics selected for prizes (Shelfie-sticks)
  • Banned Books Week - Sep. 23-30
  • Lunch Bunch Reading Club: historical fiction -- September 26

October
  • World Card Making Day (to celebrate during October) -- have scrapbooking supplies out for students (at PGM and around LCS) to create cards that I will deliver
  • Teen Read Week: Oct 7-13 -- Read for the Fun of It!
    • MakerFest
    • Book-to-Movie Event -- afterschool screening of (TBA) with popcorn and drinks
  • Grab & Go Mystery book -- mystery, suspense, and other fall-themed books will be bagged up for students to choose randomly
  • Lunch Bunch Reading Club: graphic novels -- October 31
  • Students “Caught Reading” to win book fair gift certificates. Teachers snap pics of students with books, share, and tag PGM on social media to be entered into the prize drawings.
November
  • Book Fair November 5-12
  • Origami Day -- have origami books on display, how-to videos streaming, and papers out for students to try their hand at folding -- November 14
  • I Mustache You to Checkout These Books -- Mustache PhotoBooth
  • Game & Puzzle Week - Nov. 16-20 (though really celebrated during Thanksgiving week) - will have iPads, board games, card games, and computers setup for gaming/coding
  • I Am Thankful For… leaf display at library entrance
  • Lunch Bunch Reading Club: books in a series -- November 28

December
  • National Cookie Day December 4 - students who visit and checkout books get a cookie
  • Hour of Code -- Dec. 3-9
  • PGM Film Festival -- book trailer voting
  • Book Quote Ornaments (11/30 - 12/4) - have cutouts and calligraphy pens out for students to write their favorite book quote on an ornament to hang on the media center Christmas tree
  • Read holiday stories to PGE students
  • Lunch Bunch Reading Club: any -- December 12
  • Reading Challenge Ice Cream Sundae party

January
  • Remind students About Reading Contest
  • Lunch Bunch Reading Club: nonfiction -- January 30

February
  • Digital Learning Day -- February 28 -- coding, robotics, etc...Maker Day in the Library
  • Blind Date with a Book
  • World Read Aloud Day - February 1 - collaborate with other LCS and schools around Georgia to continuously read aloud
  • Begin collecting titles for March Madness and setup brackets
  • Lunch Bunch Reading Club: dystopian -- February 27

March
  • March Madness of Books
  • Teen Tech Week - app board for students to share their favorite apps, QR code scavenger hunt in the library
  • Read Across America Day/Dr. Seuss’ Birthday - March 2
  • Lunch Bunch Reading Club: sports books -- March 27

April
  • National Library Week - April 7-13
  • Academic Olympics
  • National Poetry Month
  • Poetry Cafe -- setup in Reading Room for classes to participate in poetry readings
  • Lunch Bunch Reading Club: poetry books -- April 24

May
  • Wrap Up Year Long Reading Challenge - Lunch in the Library
  • Book Exchange Party - bring a gift wrapped book to participate
  • Lunch Bunch Reading Club: Kick off Summer Reading Challenge -- May 22
